A Systematic Review of the Effectiveness of Group Art Therapy Researches Focused on Major Art Medium

Abstract
This study has conducted a systematic review of the effectiveness of group art therapy researches focused on major art medium. 184 documents of the researches conducted between 2000 and 2020 were selected from the PRISMA Flow Diagram. The findings are as follows. There were nine art medium that have been conducted and the number of the studies from 2011 to 2020 has increased from from 2000 to 2010. The proportion of the master's thesises, quasi-experimental designs and researches on children were the largest. The frequency of 10-19 treatment sessions 60-minute period and with) 10-19 people in a group were the highest. As the result of examining the effectiveness of group art therapy, in studies using watercolor medium and collage as major art medium show the highest frequency on emotion-related variables Korean painting medium photograph and natural medium on self-related variables; clay and viscous medium and multimedia on character-related variables; fiber medium on stress-related variables; and paper medium on quality of life-related variables. This specific thesis holds that the research has compiled and outlined group art therapy studies that verify the effects with the major medium in Korea offering primary data for subsequent studies.
